New Posts Up in the cloud
Cloud computing is touted as a great money-saver, particularly for smaller firms with precious few financial and manpower resources to deploy and manage their own IT infrastructure. But there are concerns that have not been sufficiently addressed, e.g. How safe are my data files residing with the cloud computing provider? What if the provider goes out of business (it is not uncommon for huge IT companies to go bust)?

So, should you put your firm on the IT cloud, or continue to spend a small fortune running your own IT department? Share your comments and concerns.

New Posts Going global
The market for new IT business is saturated in Singapore, says a local software development firm which has now gone to China to offer low-cost subscription-based online software services (SaaS). But the China market is tough and China business culture is inscrutable, even to Chinese from Singapore or Hong Kong. Closer home, doing business in Malaysia, Indonesia and regional markets is equally tough.

If you have gone abroad and find the going challenging, share your experience with the rest of us who are still sheltered in this Little Red Dot.

New Posts Going overseas in time of recession
The Singapore IT market is simply too small, and going overseas should be the long-term goal for small and midsized tech firms. But with the current recession and a credit crunch hitting markets worldwide, is it wise to venture abroad? Costs of travel and investing time and effort learning a new business culture can be prohibitive. Worse, they may not bring immediate results.

So, are there practical strategies for SMEs to market and support their ICT products and solutions outside Singapore cheaply and profitably?
