High-quality handheld TV from Innoxius

December 2007: Setting up a high-quality streaming mobile television network is made easier with Innoxius Technologies’ new DVB-H infrastructure.

DVB-H stands for digital video broadcasting-handheld, a fancy name for one of three mobile TV formats. Innoxius has the DVB-H capabilities to provide end-to-end mobile TV solutions from media encoding to receiving devices.

The company has begun broadcast trials in conjunction with a telco in Singapore and Indonesia and plans a soft launch this month, with coverage in the CBD areas of Singapore. Later phases are expected to start in April 2008.

Mobile phones that want to receive the streaming mobile TV signals will need to have the required software pre-installed. However, consumers can also use an SDIO receiver that will allow any PDA or PDA phone to receive the same signals as well. However, as this is based on WIFI technology, the video quality may be lower.

The backbone of the infrastructure is based on the company’s macro DVB-H base station which is all the equipment any operator needs to deploy a DVB-H transmission site. It can function as a standalone broadcasting site or deployed as part of a large multi-cellular DVB-H network. A smaller mini DVB-H base station, the first of its kind, is also available for indoor or small area broadcast.

Innoxius started as a research and system integration company with a focus on wireless capabilities, and has grown to include infrastructure equipment manufacturing, and turnkey system integration business units for the defence and government sectors.

It was a winner in 2006’s Red Herring Asia 100, and won a Gold Partner Award from Singapore Electronics Technologies in 2005.
