InfoWave Installs Fleet Management System on one of Australia’s Transport Company |
|
|
Nolan’s Transport is one of the largest transportation companies in Queensland Australia, servicing all capital cities along the eastern seaboard including Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide from a single distribution centre. It offers daily delivery services for fresh produce, confectionary and dairy products to distribution centres through out eastern Australia. Today, it operates a fleet of 100 prime movers (large trucks) and 150 refrigerated trailers. Nolan’s Transport picks up local produce such as potatoes, lettuce, onions, pumpkins, carrots etc., direct from the farms around Gatton in the rich Locker Valley district by its own local transport fleet of about 30 trucks. This produce is then taken back to Nolan’s Transport’s Deport in Gatton and stored in massive cold rooms before being loaded onto prime mover trucks with the refrigerated vans to be distributed around Australia. To improve efficiency of the operations and the experiences of its customers and employees, Nolan’s Transport has worked with InfoWave’s Australian partner, Future Fleet, to introduce a web-based ASP fleet tracking system called MobiMax 3000 that worked seamlessly with Waveon 728 Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) for its prime mover trucks. A total of 30 trucks were installed with Waveon 728 MDT during a pilot test. Waveon 728 MDT was chosen to provide Nolan’s Transport drivers with an anti-glare, wide-screen, 7-inch TFT display that is designed for all weather and driving conditions. MobiMax 3000 allows the drivers to transmit alerts in the event of emergencies via Waveon 728’s GSM/GPRS module to Nolan’s Transport call centre so that help can be dispatched to them immediately. The system also allows messaging from drivers to Nolan’s Transport’s Head Office and vice-versa. Using GPS facilitated by Waveon 728’s receiver module, the fleet tracking system enables Nolan’s Transport to track every truck and driver, right from the distribution centre to the customer’s location, and systematically update the expected delivery and loading/unloading times for each customer online. This gives Nolan’s Transport a tremendous advantage in the delivery category as it can now provide a better customer experience, as well as move towards a more efficient delivery window. Because of the long distances travelled each day by Nolan’s Transport drivers, it is essential that the Nolan’s Transport Fatigue Management staffs are aware that the drivers take the mandatory rest periods during their trips. If this system was not in place, the drivers could drive longer hours without Nolan’s Transport knowing. This system has successfully prevented potential accidents from occurring when the drivers fall asleep. Due to its foresight and commitment in putting this system in place, Nolan’s Transport is now able to allocate its vehicle resources efficiently and effectively. This has brought about an increase in productivity for the company and also helps to increase the safety of the drivers by ensuring that the drivers get adequate rests during their work.
