Stratech Systems recently won the Asia Pacific ICT Award for its Research and Development efforts in creating its FOD* (Foreign Object and Debris) Detection System as well as its Intelligent Airfield / Runway Surveillance system in the APICTA ceremony held in Macau between the 2nd and 5th of November this year. Coined as iFerret before its unveiling, the award-winning system is the culmination of Stratech’s research and work on Super Bullseye II, the Next-Generation Weapon Scoring System while fusing elements of its state-of-the-art Automated Foreign Object and Abnormality Detection technologies. Launched in February 2006 at the Asian Aerospace show, the system is the world’s first of its kind to use Intelligent vision to detect and classify foreign objects; while being able to also show the location of said foreign objects. It features self-calibrating cameras, automated scene analysis and configurable scan resolution for different object sizes. It provides airfield support and surveillance with information regarding FOD, bird strike condition or even battle damage surveillance in times of conflict. iFerret was also previously awarded The Enterprise Challenge (TEC) Initiative by the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore. *FOD: Materials that may hinder or endanger the safety of aerospace activities. Objects such as broken aircraft parts, detached runway fittings, rocks and even wildlife like birds are classified as FOD. According to The Boeing Company, runway FODs have caused the aerospace industry and estimated US$4 billion in aircraft repairs and flight delays. Click here for more about Stratech Systems.
